$160,000 for a NASCAR-inspired Toyota Camry? Definitely!
Would you drop $160,000 on a Toyota Camry? You might if it was a street-legal NASCAR racer, with over 600 horses under the bonnet…
You could be forgiven for thinking that the title of this post had a wrongly placed zero, but we assure you it hasn’t. The reason for the super-inflated price is because the Toyota Camry in question is, without doubt, one of the craziest ever built.
The fact that it’s now up for sale for a fixed price, and not in some high-brow auction somewhere, will please many enthusiasts; even if the price is a little on the high side.
Back in 2010, at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas, Toyota and RK Motors unveiled a special NASCAR edition Toyota Camry, and that’s the car that you see above.
At the time, it differed from all the other cars on show at SEMA because it was built from scratch, and not from an existing Camry coupe shell.
Under the bonnet, the Camry features a 5.9-litr V8 which outputs 680-horsepower. All that power is sent to the rear wheels only, and controlled by a six-speed manual transmission, making it (we imagine) a very fun car to drive.
Perhaps more surprising is the fact that the Camry can still accommodate four people relatively easily, despite its racing roots. Moreover, the cabin is decked out with leather and the seats boast power controls. There’s even air-conditioning! It seems Toyota and RK Motors wanted to create a rocket-powered Rolls Royce.
Looking for a low-mileage vehicle? This Camry has only got 17 miles on the clock!
Okay, so the price is going deter many people, but don’t forget you’re basically buying a street-legal NASCAR racer, complete with all the creature comforts you could wish for. The exhausts peep out of one side and there’s a four-point roll cage – what more could you want!?!
It’s worth noting that RK Motors tried to sell this Camry once before back in 2013. That was at auction and we can only assume it never sold.
Fancy owning it? Have a look on eBay. If you find the listing you’ll see it has a “buy it now” price of $160,000, but who knows, maybe they’d take an offer…
