2015 WRX STI Wins on Sno*Drift Rally Debut

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI made the perfect debut at the Rally America National Championship Sno*Drift Rally, winning all 17 stages. But was it beginner’s luck or a sign for the future?

The treacherous Sno*Drift Rally in northern Michigan was definitely not for the feint-hearted, with more than 120 miles of snow and ice covered roads. But despite the perilous conditions, defending Rally America champion David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew – driving for Subaru Rally Team USA – put on a totally dominant performance.

Higgins and Drew won all 17 stages of the rally and headed up a podium featuring only Subaru vehicles. In fact, Subaru claimed all of the top five positions at the Sno*Drift Rally, which further emphasises the Japanese firm’s control in highly-demanding conditions – credited mainly to its Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive®.

Speaking about their victory, Higgins said: “The Sno*Drift Rally is always such a challenge to even finish and stay on the road. It’s one of those events that the biggest challenge is not the other drivers but the stages themselves”.

The convincing win is even more impressive when you consider that studded and spiked ice tyres are strictly prohibited.

Spiked and studded tyres are not allowed at the Sno*Drift Rally

The Subaru Rally Team USA’s next outing will be on February 27-28 at The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, near Salem, Missouri. An event that boasts “high-speed gravel roads” and will present a totally different challenge to the Sno*Drift Rally.

You can see the Subaru Rally Team USA’s 2015 WRX STI in action in the following video, which gives an awesome perspective of the infamous Bonfire Alley stage of the Sno*Drift Rally. Enjoy…
