All-New Nissan Silvia Rumoured

If reports are true, Nissan are set to reintroduce the iconic Silvia sports car in late 2017 and it will apparently be based on the firm’s IDx concept.

An all-new Nissan 200SX Silvia has been rumoured since 2008, but nothing has ever come to fruition. However, all that could change in 2017 if the latest industry gossip is to be believed.

According to Motoring.com.au, Nissan’s IDx concept will be the base for the new Silvia and it will be a car that rivals the Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S trio, if it gets built.

The new Silvia will come in two engine options: a supercharged 1.2-litre and a turbocharged 1.6-litre; both of which will send power to the rear wheels. In terms of styling, the Silvia will get much of its looks from the Nissan Sports Sedan Concept.

Smaller than the next generation Z, the new Silvia will provide pure driving pleasure and focus on being lightweight rather than outrageously powerful. However, gossip says that the larger-engine model will produce close to the Toyota GT86’s 200-horsepower.

It’s further rumoured that a revised version of the IDx concept will debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and more information about the new Silvia will be announced afterwards.

All we know for now is that the new model will hopefully go on sale towards the end of 2017 and a Nismo variant will follow in due course.

While we’d love this news to be true we’re not getting our hopes up too much. After all, we’ve been waiting since 2008 for a new Silvia. But let’s never say never and wait and see what Nissan announce next year. We’ll update you as soon as we hear more…
