All-new Type-R to Spearhead Honda’s ‘Civicpalooza’ at SEMA
The 2016 SEMA aftermarket show is about to open and Honda will showcase no less than nine Civic-based delights at what it calls “Civicpalooza”.
As if Mazda unveiling its Speedster Evolution & RF Kuro Concepts at this year’s SEMA aftermarket show wasn’t enough, Honda will be hosting a full-on “Civicpalooza”.
What’s a Civicpalooza we hear you say? Good question!
According to what Honda has in mind, it’s a display featuring nine tuned, tweaked, accessorised and custom-built Civic sedans, coupes, and hatchbacks. The best part of all, though, is that the new Civic Type-R prototype (pictured above) will be the headliner of said Civicpalooza and get its North American debut at the same time.
Let’s not forget that the Civic Type-R prototype actually made its world debut in Paris last month, but the SEMA show will be the first opportunity for US-based fans to see it in the flesh, so to speak.
While we still don’t know its exact specs, speculation is rife that the new Type-R will boast an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre, turbo’d-four taken from the current model and will output over 300-horsepower.
In addition to the Type-R prototype, Honda will also showcase a wide variety of other tuned models and concepts.
There will be the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe GRC Competitive Race Car, which recently featured in the 2016 Global Rallycross season finale, and the 2017 Honda Civic Coupe Racing Concept that’s set to make its race debut at the USAF 25 Hours of Thunderhill event in December, for a start.
SEMA visitors will also get to see the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback/Honda Factory Performance (HFP) concept; the 2016 MAD Industries Honda Civic Coupe; and the SEGA Sonic Civic, which “embodies the spirit of the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ classic video game,” according to Honda.
Honda will also use the Civicpalooza to show off its all-new 2017 Ridgeline pickup and a number of highly-tuned race bikes.
