Lancer Evo Bidded Farewell in Final Edition Video
It’s a Japanese icon for rally enthusiasts, but the Lancer Evolution will soon cease production and Mitsubishi has decided to say goodbye with a Final Edition production video.
Whether you’re a Mitsubishi fanboy or not, you can’t argue that the Lancer Evolution won’t be missed when it’s finally gone. And gone it will be as Japan’s street-ready rally car is being officially phased out with production ceasing in the country.
But the good news is that Mitsubishi is making one final edition before the Lancer Evo bows out of the spotlight for the final time. And to mark this poignant moment in Mitsubishi history the firm has released a video showing how the all-wheel-drive, turbocharged beast is made.
The Final Edition will be limited to just 1,000 units in Japan, while the US is expected to get 1,600.
Based on the GSR model, the Final Edition will come with a five-speed manual transmission, as well as a host of performance goodies, including Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, and more.
To-date, there have been 10 generations of the Lancer Evolution and its heritage stretches back some 23 years in total. It really will be sad to see Mitsubishi’s iconic road-rally car cease production.
Mitsubishi says that it will be replaced in spirit by a high-powered, hybrid SUV. While we’ll just have to wait and see what that will look like, it’s going to be little comfort for true fans of the Evo.
The Final Edition production video can be viewed below, so please take six and a half minutes out of your day to wish the Evo farewell.
Grab your tissues before watching this one as it represents the end of an era for Mitsubishi’s street legal rally racer…
