Mazda and Xbox Join Forces for 2016 MX-5 Release

What better way to celebrate the release of your latest sports car than by teaming up with a video games giant and running a competition that appeals to both gamers and car enthusiasts alike?

To celebrate and promote the release of the 2016 MX-5 next year and push the game Forza Horizon 2, Mazda and Xbox have joined forces to create an MX-5 livery design contest. Using a purpose-built, Mazda-branded Xbox 360 and Xbox One hub, contestants will be able to laud their design skills by giving an in-game 1994 Miata a livery makeover.

The idea is that individuals will come up with the most eye-catching and innovative designs they can, which will then be judged by a panel consisting of Microsoft, Mazda and Turn 10 Studio representatives. This panel will whittle the field down to five lucky semi-finalists whose designs will then be subjected to the public voting leg of the contest.

Two finalists will be chosen based on the results of the public voting. These individuals will then be flown to South by Southwest in Austin, Texas for a final head-to-head battle. The winner will see their final design made available in Forza Horizon 2 as a free gift to other players.

Plus, they’ll also receive a stack of goodies including a 55-inch curved TV, Xbox One Kinect, Madcatz Racing Wheel and home audio system. The total cost of all the prizes is estimated at around $3,499 – not bad for some livery design tinkering!

And there was us expecting a shiny new 2016 MX-5 being offered as the prize…

The contest is open now and runs until January 4 2015. So if you’ve got a copy of Forza, an Xbox live account and some creative flair, now’s your chance to make a name for yourself and win some sweet prizes in the process.

Entries will be judged based on aesthetic design, technical proficiency and originality. What are you waiting for!?
