Mazda Announces Arctic Edition MX-5 for UK Market

Brand new Arctic Edition MX-5 to go on sale in the UK in February 2017 and to be limited to just 400 units.

Special edition versions of the Mazda MX-5 aren’t exactly few and far between, but that usually doesn’t detract from the appeal of them to fans of what’s arguably the world’s most iconic roadster.

The MX-5 Miata Arctic Edition is the latest in a long line of special editions to be announced by Mazda. So what’s the score with it?

Well, the first thing you’ll notice is the colour. It’s finished with a Blue Reflex Metallic paintjob with contrasting bright silver cues, which is supposed to match the mood of the season it’s promoting in the UK: winter.

The Arctic Edition – which will be limited to just 400 units when it’s released in the United Kingdom in February 2017 – is actually a revamp of a special edition second generation MX-5 first seen back in 2005. And like that 12-year-old Arctic Edition this one features a number of additional equipment and exclusive design tweaks.

There are leather seats, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, as well as chrome scuff plates and silver cup holder rings.

Based on the SE-L Nav grade and equipped with a 129-horsepower 1.5-litre engine, the Arctic Edition will be priced from £20,995 ($35,902AUD) in the UK.

“We are delighted to offer another special version of the award-winning MX-5 convertible; we’ve had a long history of producing distinctive limited edition MX-5s that allow customers to drive a sports car with stand-out looks and enhanced standard equipment. The new MX-5 Arctic’s exclusive looks and great value mean it’s sure to be a popular choice when it arrives in dealerships early next year,” said Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson.

The only downside to this rather ‘cool’ looking, very silver special edition MX-5 is that it will be sold exclusively in the UK.
