Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X to go out with a bang
Fans of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X have come to accept the fact that its days are numbered but it seems that the road-going rally machine has one last surprise left…
It’s hard to deny that the Lancer Evo X is an awesome machine. What’s even harder to deny is the fact that the writing has been on the wall for the Evo for a while now and its inevitable demise is likely to be next year.
However, it seems that the Evo X is not going to depart quietly and instead looks set to go out with quite a bang according to Automotive News.
They recently published an article outlining upcoming design changes for Mitsubishi’s U.S. range next year. In their report, AN state that a so-called ‘Special Action Model’ is due to be released which will boast more horsepower and other ‘performance improvements’.
Therefore, we can expect the Evo’s current 291 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo charged engine to be given a thorough going over by Mitsubishi to produce something memorable – let’s at least hope so!
Whether it will retain the six-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission or Super All-Wheel Control system remains to be seen.
The bad news, however, is that the Evo X SAM will be limited to just 2,000 – 2,500 units. The even worse news is it will only be released in the U.S.
With its phase out just around the corner you’ll need to act fast if you want to get your hands on a Lancer Evo – that’s if you can find a dealership with stock.
In the meantime, why not check out this World of Speed video from IGN which features a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X vs. a Subaru Impreza WRX STi. It might be just a video game but it’s pretty cool nonetheless…
