Mitsubishi PHEV Images Teased Ahead of Official Release
Mitsubishi’s new crossover concept car is due to make its world debut very soon, but to drum up excitement ahead of its release, the Japanese car giant have teased a couple of exciting images.
Ahead of its official Geneva Motor Show release next month, Mitsubishi have released a couple of images of their all-new concept and if the teaser images are anything to go by, it’s rather sleek and stylish.
Set to replace the firm’s ASX compact SUV, the as yet unnamed vehicle looks to be a development of Mitsubishi’s XR-PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) concept, which made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2013.
Despite still being a concept, in their official press release Mitsubishi gave away some exciting details about the car and said that it was a “declaration of intent” for the Japanese car maker’s future.
So what do we know about it right now?
Well, according to the press release, the car will feature a next-gen two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain,
The only real hints that the brand drops about the vehicle is a crossover which will feature a next-gen, two-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid powertrain. Mitsubishi were also keen to point out that their all-new concept car perfectly complemented the theme of this year’s Geneva Motor Show: “A future-oriented attitude: powerful, fast and dynamic”.
“Making its debut on 3 March, the new concept is designed to achieve best-in-class CO2 emissions performance through a light, compact and high-performance PHEV [plug-in hybrid electric vehicle] system complete with high-output electric motor”, said the Japanese car maker.
But while no details have emerged regarding the concept’s petrol engine, we can tell you that the XR-PHEV boasted a turbo-charged 1.1-litre engine with a 120kW electric motor. Whether the new concept improves on this remains to be seen, but if Mitsubishi want to make a “declaration of intent” for their future then should we expect something more powerful?
