New Civic Type-R faster than legendary NSX say Honda
Honda say their new Civic Type-R will rev to 7,000 rpm, have adaptive suspension and outperform the NSX Type-R. Interested?
With the Paris Motor Show literally days away, Honda have got hot hatch enthusiasts hot under the collar with their latest Civic Type-R press release. And, with what seems like the longest gestation period of any hot hatch in history, it would appear that the Honda press machine is doing its job perfectly in terms of arousing interest.
The latest news is that the 2015 Civic Type-R will feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine capable of producing over 280 horsepower. Honda also say that the Type-R will rev to a clock-busting 7,000 rpm and have a six-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, it will boast an adaptive suspension system which is designed to deal with all that power.
How are you liking that bright blue colour scheme? It’s certainly eye-catching and makes a change from the scarlet paint we previously saw.
Honda have said that the new Type-R “will deliver unmatched performance compared to any previous Type R car” and perhaps more eye-opening is their claim that it’s faster than the 1989 NSX!
It’s pretty safe to say that the previous 22 years of VTEC-powered Type-Rs will soon become history and the new turbocharged engine will set a precedent going forward.
There’s also a +R sports mode that can be activated by a button on the side of the steering wheel, which tightens the Type-R’s suspension, increases throttle response and improves steering and torque mapping. However, even in ‘default’ mode the Civic is going to be an awesome drive – it’s just that the +R mode will allow drivers to experience a more dynamic and athletic car.
All eyes are now on the Paris Motor Show to see what else Honda have up their sleeve.
