Next-Gen Impreza Concept Tokyo Bound
Subaru will preview their new Impreza concept at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. What can we expect and should we be excited?
It might seem like we’re all about concept designs and teaser images at the moment and that’s because we are! Today is no different too, with Japanese car manufacturers providing us with a seemingly endless supply of concept designs to tell you about.
What you see above is Subaru’s new Impreza 5-Door Concept design study and it’s scheduled to make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
So what do we know about it?
Well, according to Subaru, this vehicle is a vital part of the firm’s Prominence 2020 plan, which aims to not only grow the brand, but also enhance the Japanese giant’s product offering.
Central to that plan is a new, standardised platform, which is reportedly going to underpin every vehicle from the Impreza to the Outback going forward. It’s thought to be lighter and stronger – factors which car fans will undoubtedly welcome.
The images released by Subaru appear to show that the new Impreza will take on a more hatchback shape than its predecessors and feature a new grill with larger air intakes and boasts a subtle roof-mounted spoiler at the back.
It will be powered by a new engine too, which incorporates cylinder deactivation technology, but that’s about all we know at the moment.
Autocar reports that the new Subaru will hit sometime next year and won’t deviate too far from the current model’s price.
The new concept looks decidedly more aggressive than the current Impreza and that’s something that many fans will no doubt appreciate. Whether its performance specs live up to expectations, though, remains to be seen…
