Nissan Gears Up for 2016 Australian Motorsports Season

Nissan has unveiled the liveries that will adorn its Altima V8 supercar and GT-R Nismo GT3 in the Australian motorsports season this year, and they’re looking slick.

Just ahead of the 2016 Australian motorsports season kicking off, Nissan has unveiled the cars and liveries that its teams will be running this year.

At a press conference at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria last Thursday, Nissan Motor Co. Australia managing director and CEO, Richard Emery, said: “Today is a display of how heavily committed Nissan is to Australian motorsport.”

First up is the Nissan Altima V8 supercar that Michael Caruso will be driving. The 600+ horsepower rocket features a variation of the global GT3 colours that the Altima wore last season and is in keeping with the white, red and black elements often sported by Nismo vehicles, the manufacturer’s bespoke performance division.

Caruso was the second-highest placed Nissan driver in 2015, behind team boss Rick Kelly, and earned a podium finish at Winton. Both he and Nissan will be hoping for an even better season this year.

The second car Nissan unveiled on track in Victoria was its #1 GT-R Nismo GT3, which it hopes will secure victory at the Bathurst 12-hour race this week on February 5-7, securing back-to-back victories for the team in the event. The most notable addition to the GT3’s now-familiar livery is an Australian flag.

Also present at the unveiling was 2015 Nissan PlayStation Academy winner Matt Simmons, who will be a part of the Nismo Athlete Global Team crew this season, racing full-time in the 2016 Blancpain GT Endurance Series.

“Elements from all three pillars of our local motorsport activities – V8 Supercars, GT3 and the Bathurst 12 Hour, and the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy program – were all at Phillip Island. All is now set for a huge 2016 season, beginning with the Bathurst 12 Hour next month where the Nissan GT-R will strive to win back-to back victories at Mount Panorama, just as it did in 1991 and 1992,” said Emery.

To accompany the press conference, Nissan Australia released two videos, which you can view below. The first gives a general overview of what we can expect from Nissan in the 2016 Australian motorsports season and the second features post-test interviews with Rick Kelly and Florian Strauss.
