Pre-orders of Subaru XV Hybrid tS now being taken in Japan
The Subaru XV Hybrid tS is Subaru’s motorsports division’s take on the popular XV, but don’t expect it to hit Australian shores anytime soon.
People living in Japan can now pre-order the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) developed Subaru XV tS (shown above), with deliveries expected to start in the country in autumn. But before you get too excited about the prospect of it heading to Australia, don’t. That’s because the XV tS treatment only applies to the XV Hybrid, which isn’t available in Australia.
Priced from 3,226,400 yen (approx. 41,500AUD at time of writing), the special edition Subaru sees a standard XV Hybrid given a significant makeover by STI, including exclusive suspension upgrades similar to those found on the Forester tS.
While there are no changes under the bonnet to the 110kW/196Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘Boxer’ engine or the 14-horsepower electric motor, XV Hybrid tS features a wealth of STI components.
There’s 17-inch alloy wheels; STI-tuned front and rear strut suspension; STI coil springs (front and rear); a front flexible tower bar; and an STI-designed flexible draw stiffener (front).
To really accentuate all these STI goodies, the XV Hybrid tS also gets some unique exterior details. Orange highlights run from the STI-designed front spoiler lip; along the side skirts all the way to the roof spoiler. A dark grey front grille, black side mirrors, and STI and tS badging top off the outside look.
On the inside, there’s more orange highlighting, as well as STI-designed black leather/Ultrasuede combination seats; a leather-clad sports steering wheel; a piano black instrument panel; orange door armrests and exclusive STI side sill plates.
The XV Hybrid tS is available in Crystal Black, Hyper Blue and Crystal White Pearl (add 32,400 yen ($411)).
Even though the XV Hybrid tS won’t be offered in Australia, the next-generation model was previewed at this year’s Geneva motor show with the XV concept. Interestingly, the concept also featured its fair share of orange highlights in and out.
