Radical Honda Civic Concept Revealed at NY Auto Show
Honda’s press conference at this year’s New York Auto Show may have stolen all the limelight thanks mainly to the unveiling of a radical new Civic Concept.
At this year’s New York Auto Show, Honda not only dropped a new Civic Concept on us – which is immensely awesome – but also revealed that the full range of Civics will be made available in the US sometime in the future.
So what’s this Civic Concept all about?
Well, as you can see from the picture above, it’s making some pretty bold statements in terms of Honda’s design direction going forward. The rather eye-catching green paint (love it or hate it) will be a production colour when the vehicle is released.
The concept itself sits on a lower, wider and, perhaps most importantly, global frame that will be used by every 10th-generation Civic produced. So that means coupe, sedan, five-door hatch, Type R and Si models.
Furthermore, the real icing on the cake for the local Honda fans was that all of these models will be available on American shores in the future. News that VTEC fans in the US have been waiting a lifetime to hear.
The Civic Concept is being seen as a “game changer” with its aggressive styling and will undoubtedly inject some attitude into the model.
However, before you start thinking that Honda is firmly focussed on performance and exterior styling, think again. The Japanese giant is going after class-leading fuel economy and will offer “near-luxury levels of cabin quietness and ride refinement.”
“The new Civic will be, flat out, the most dynamic, the most technologically advanced and the most refined and stylish Civic we’ve ever made,” said John Mendel, Honda’s Executive Vice President. “In every way, this will be an epic Civic.”
