Spied: 2016 Honda Civic Sedan Ahead of Official Release

It was either a careless act or a clever marketing ploy. Either way, the all-new Honda Civic Sedan has been spotted parked on a street in America just days ahead of its official release and it’s the sleekest Civic yet.

Ahead of a planned September 16 unveiling, the all-new 2016 Honda Civic Sedan has been spotted out in the open by a keen-eyed passerby in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Luckily, the individual had a camera with them and was thoughtful enough to take some snaps of the Honda for the whole world to see a few days early.

The pictures were originally posted on CivicX.com in a forum thread and they show what many people expected from the new Civic Sedan in that it would be a toned down version of the 10th-generation Civic concept that Honda premiered at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

By Honda standards, the styling is somewhat wild and the all-new Civic Sedan is sleeker and more highly-sculpted than its predecessors. It seems that Honda wasn’t going to repeat the mistakes of the past and create something that’s lacklustre.

Despite the photos being taken on a dull day in unfavourable light, the Civic Sedan still seems to ooze style, with its large front air intakes and splashes of chrome trim on the door handles, window trim and grilles.

In fact, we’ve not seen a better looking Civic over the past 15 years and this is a car that will definitely inject some much-needed sportiness into the whole Honda range.

The best part is that this is the sedan don’t forget, so we can hope to expect an ever sportier look from the coupe, hatchback and performance-oriented variants.

Under the bonnet, the Sedan will utilise Honda’s new global platform, the same as every other vehicle in the 10th-generation Civic range, which in North America will be an all-new 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine coupled with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT.

Performance specs are still unknown, but there have been whispers of 150-horsepower being produced by similar engines in other vehicles. Nothing to write home about, but let’s wait and see what the real deal is when the car is officially unveiled.

A careless bit of parking or a cleverly-timed marketing stunt?
