Subaru Teases Impreza Concept Ahead of LA Show
Subaru has teased us with an image of it next-generation Impreza Sedan Concept. Should we be excited?
Subaru has teased us with a rather intriguing image of its Impreza Sedan Concept ahead of the car’s official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
While no release date has been confirmed at this time, we do know that Subaru boss Yasuyuki Yoshinaga will unveil the car on November 18 at a Subaru press conference.
Subaru is pinning a lot on the next generation Impreza, with it thought to be a key part of the firm’s Prominence 2020 plan, which is designed to enhance the Japanese giant’s line and grow its brand.
Core to this plan will be a new standardised platform which is expected to underpin every Subaru model going forward, from the Impreza to the Outback, which is reportedly stronger, yet more lightweight.
And if the cars the new Impreza has been spied testing with are anything to go by – a Ford Focus and a Mazda 3 – it’s being earmarked as a player in the family hatchback market.
The five door concept sports a much more conventional hatchback shape than its predecessor and boasts a new grill and large front air intakes. At the back, there’s a prominent lip spoiler.
It’s being reported also that new Subarus will come with more upmarket interiors, with the company saying: “We want to win new customers who measure our interiors against brands such as BMW, Audi and Alfa.”
The new vehicles will also be driven by a new generation of engines, which will feature “cylinder deactivation technology”. Despite not being confirmed yet, the new Impreza is expected to be released towards the end of next year and have a price tag that isn’t different to the current range.
The LA Auto Show will be held at the LA Convention Centre between November 20-29.
